Gillian Henshaw
After graduating with an honours degree in Marketing and Modern languages from Strathclyde University Business School, Glasgow, I spent 15 years working as a marketing director in the financial services world in the UK and France. Throughout this time, I maintained a keen interest in art and attended evening classes in Vichy, Paris and at Edinburgh School of Art.
Since the birth of my son, Jamie, in 2007, I have been able to dedicate more time to my painting and I recently studied landscape painting at Leith School of Art, having attended other courses and classes there and with The Edinburgh Drawing School and Paintbox Art School.
I have been exhibiting and selling work since 2012 and currently focus on French and Scottish landscapes & gardens and Still life flowers. I am truly inspired by the variations and nuances in colours and textures in landscapes and the diversity of foliage and flowers to be found here, in Scotland and also, in France. I take much of my influence from other Scottish and French abstract artists.
Working predominantly in oils, acrylics and pastels, I use all sorts of methods of applying paint, including brushes, fingers, palette knives, and cloths in order to achieve the atmosphere and mood that I am trying to encapsulate in the finished product.
My paintings can be found in collections in the UK, South Africa, USA and the Far East. I currently exhibit in galleries around Scotland.
