Pattern is a surface thing. On one level, it’s all about appearances, but sometimes pattern can be a disguise or a cover-up. Inspired by the American Pattern and Decoration movement of the 60’s and 70’s my work explores pattern and ornamentation as historical document, presenting outward signals of social status, contemporary taste and cultural literacy whilst also having the possibility of carrying narrative.
