Victoria makes contemporary abstract landscape paintings – her eye is drawn towards horizon lines, colour, marks and patterns in the landscape. She has a passion for remote and open spaces – where sky meets sea meets land.
She finds inspiration while walking in nature – armed with a basic knowledge of the physical geography of the landscape, a geekish interest in maps and cloud formation and a desire to explore and breathe in the intoxicating wilderness air.
She captures fleeting moments of sunlight dancing across the sky, of wind rushing though broom pods and she searches out patterns created by tides distributing pebbles across the shoreline. Her bold and joyful paintings are a reflection from a moment – a memory – and offer the observer a glimpse of a familiar place.
Victoria makes mixed media paintings and enjoys the process of playing with textures, patterns and colour. She loves the idea of creating hidden layers in her paintings, with just a hint of what lies beneath – in the same way the geology of the land does to the knowing observer.
Victoria graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, with a BDes (Hons) in Constructed Textiles and a Master of Fine Art. She has exhibited throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK and has artworks in private collections across the world.
